• Chicago School West Los Angeles Counseling Center Celebrates New Location


    (Los Angeles) (October 05, 2015) – One of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s (TCSPP) Counseling Centers celebrated its new home in West Los Angeles with a ribbon cutting ceremony and social gathering on August 20, 2015. The mission of The Chicago School’s Counseling Centers is to offer high quality and affordable mental health services to the members of the greater Los Angeles and Orange County communities in order to reduce psychological problems and distress and enhance mental health, well-being, and quality of life.

    The West Los Angeles location is one of two Chicago School Counseling Centers in Southern California, the other center is located at the Irvine Branch Campus in Orange County. The culturally-competent services are primarily provided by students from The Chicago School on internship and practicum. The Chicago School is a nonprofit university, and one of the leading institutions devoted to psychology, and related behavioral and health sciences.

    Representatives from the Offices of Mayor Garcetti, State Senator Holly Mitchell, Councilman Paul Koretz and Assembly member Sebastian Ridlely-Thomas, and the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce accompanied Dr. Daun Baker, Associate Provost, Training and Licensure Affairs, TCSPP president Dr. Michele Nealon-Woods, and key staff at the Counseling Center on this special day to formally announce The Chicago School’s contribution as mental health care providers to the surrounding communities.

    In her opening remarks, Dr. Baker said, “We believe we are on the right track. Our recent client satisfaction survey indicated that overall, clients were ‘highly satisfied with their clinical services and with their experience at our Counseling Center.”

    Chicago School West Los Angeles Counseling Center Celebrates New Location

    This past year, the West Los Angeles Counseling Center’s staff provided more than 7,000 hours of psychological services to community members on a sliding scale, based on income. Services are provided in Spanish, Farsi, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, Czech, English, and Finnish. The new location has 16 treatment rooms equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment for ensuring the highest quality supervision and training for TCSPP students.

    President of the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Roozbeh Farahanipour, executed the ribbon-cutting at the ceremony. Farahanipour believes the Center has much to offer to the West Los Angeles community and surrounding populations, “Mental health services are very important to our community and the Chicago School is a potential partner for many nonprofit organizations in West Los Angeles who specialize in support services for different groups of people including immigrants, children and the homeless population.”
